Tips For Staying Organized
Getting a house organized is a full-time job. And, just like with any full-time job, there are many ways to make it easier on you and your household.
1. Clean, clean, clean your house.
Under the beds, inside the cabinets, all the closets and everywhere else must be cleaned. Simplify your home. Remove all unnecessary items such as unused clothing, overly-decorated shelves and everything else that you haven’t used in the past year.
2. Designated Space
Find a space for every item in your home. Put that item there. When the item is used, put it back where it belongs. Remember the old adage “everything has a place and everything in it’s place” and live by it. Place rarely used items in storage containers and tuck them away.
3. Labels
Create labels and use them for all cabinets, drawers and storage containers. Place the labels on the inside of cabinets and drawers so they don’t become eyesores. Label all the sides and lid of your storage containers. This will help everyone in your household to remember what goes where.
4. Get Tough
Explain the new organization to all members of your household. Let them know that this is the new way the house is going to be. Tell them it is their responsibility to keep their home organized. Be considerate of younger household members. Make sure the rules they must follow regarding organization are age appropriate. Let everyone know there will be consequences for not doing their part in keeping the house organized as well as rewards for a job well done.
